Commanders fall 30-13 to Colts in London, drop to 1-3

Washington managed just 13 points at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday, unable to stop Jonathan Taylor or sustain anything on offense long enough to matter.

Washington flew to London and came home with nothing. The Commanders dropped a 30-13 decision to the Indianapolis Colts at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday, falling to 1-3 and looking every bit as lost as that record suggests.

It started well enough. Drew Stevens hit back-to-back field goals in the first quarter, a 31-yarder and then a 29-yarder, and Washington led 6-0. That was the high point.

Indianapolis took control before halftime. Jonathan Taylor punched in a 5-yard touchdown run with 3:23 left in the second quarter, and Spencer Shrader added a 48-yard field goal as time expired. The Colts went to the break up 10-6 and never looked back.

Taylor scored again early in the third quarter, another 5-yard run. Washington answered quickly. Athan Kaliakmanis found Treylon Burks on a 47-yard touchdown pass to pull the Commanders within 17-13, and for a moment the game felt alive. Shrader killed that. His 52-yard field goal with 7:03 left in the third made it a two-score game again, and Washington never got back within striking distance.

Daniel Jones, starting at quarterback for Indianapolis, added a 4-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter. Shrader's third field goal, from 44 yards with 5:48 remaining, closed out the scoring at 30-13.

Kaliakmanis finished 15 of 33 for 186 yards, one touchdown and one interception. The incompletions piled up. Dyami Brown was his most productive receiver with three catches for 65 yards. Marcus Mariota had the team's lone rushing attempt, a 35-yard gain, which tells you everything about how Washington's ground game functioned on the day.

Taylor was the story on the other side. He carried 20 times for 95 yards and both Colts rushing touchdowns. Jones threw for only 143 yards and was intercepted once, but Indianapolis did not need him to do more. Taylor and Shrader handled enough of it between them.

Washington's offense generated 186 passing yards and a single rushing attempt of consequence. That 47-yard connection to Burks was the one moment the Commanders looked like they could make a game of it, and it lasted about 90 seconds before Shrader's leg put the Colts back in front by nine.

Burks finished with that one catch for 47 yards. Laquon Treadwell led Indianapolis receivers with five catches for 42 yards. Neither team's passing attack was pretty, but only one of them needed it to be.

Stevens went three for three on field goals, which is the lone clean line in Washington's box score.
