Georgetown rallies from 17 points down to beat Colgate 27-17

The Hoyas trailed by 17 at halftime and still found a way to win on the road. Gavin Beard threw three touchdown passes as Georgetown pulled off the comeback at Andy Kerr Stadium.

Georgetown went into halftime down 17-0 and came out of it a different team. The Hoyas outscored Colgate 27-0 over the final two quarters to win 27-17 at Andy Kerr Stadium on Saturday, moving to 2-4 on the season.

Colgate built its lead fast. Luke Vogeler hit a 22-yard field goal midway through the first quarter, then Cole Fulton punched in a 17-yard touchdown run to make it 10-0. Joey Tomasso added a 10-yard score early in the second quarter, and just like that the Raiders were up three scores.

Then Gavin Beard got going.

The Georgetown quarterback finished 24 of 33 for 175 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. With under six minutes left in the first half, he hit Burke Carroll from a yard out to get the Hoyas on the board. That was the start of something. In the third quarter, Beard found Carroll again, this time from 23 yards, to cut the deficit to three. Georgetown had all the momentum now.

Hassan Mahasin caught a 3-yard touchdown pass from Beard with 10:37 left in the fourth quarter to give the Hoyas their first lead. Mahasin finished the afternoon with six catches for 47 yards. Clay Ash did steady work on the ground, carrying 16 times for 113 yards and keeping drives alive when Georgetown needed them most.

Jayden Sumpter sealed it with a 10-yard touchdown run with 56 seconds remaining. Georgetown tried for two but didn't convert, leaving the final at 27-17.

Colgate's Tomasso threw for 119 yards on 11 of 27 passing in a tough afternoon through the air. Fulton ran for 65 yards on 10 carries. Matt Fogler caught four passes for 64 yards, but the Raiders never found the end zone after halftime.

Colgate falls to 4-3. Georgetown's Beard connected with three different receivers for his three touchdowns, the last of them a 3-yarder to Mahasin that turned out to be the go-ahead score.
