Cornell hands Georgetown a 35-14 loss to drop Hoyas to 0-4

Garrett Bass-Sulpizio ran and threw Cornell to a comfortable road win at Cooper Field on Saturday, leaving Georgetown without a victory through four games.

Georgetown dropped to 0-4 on Saturday after Cornell rolled into Cooper Field and left with a 35-14 win, and it wasn't particularly close after the first quarter.

The Big Red struck twice before halftime. Brendan Lee connected with Ty Doughty on a 33-yard strike with 7:52 left in the first quarter, and Garrett Bass-Sulpizio punched in a one-yard run with 1:31 remaining in the period to put Cornell up 14-0.

Georgetown got one back. Jack Johnson found Jonathan Alexander on a 40-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter to cut the deficit to 14-7 at the half. That was the closest the Hoyas would get.

Bass-Sulpizio took over the game in the third quarter. He threw a nine-yard touchdown to Samuel Musungu at the 13-minute mark, then connected with Musungu again on a 30-yarder with 6:24 left in the period. Cornell was suddenly up 28-7, and the game was effectively over.

Bass-Sulpizio finished 20 of 27 for 279 yards and two passing touchdowns, and added two rushing scores himself. Musungu caught six passes for 91 yards and both of those receiving touchdowns.

Johnson did what he could for Georgetown, completing 15 of 27 passes for 145 yards and the one score, though he also threw an interception. Jayden Sumpter carried the ball 14 times for 62 yards on the ground, and Hassan Mahasin led the receiving corps with seven catches for 69 yards.

Bass-Sulpizio added a four-yard rushing touchdown midway through the fourth quarter to make it 35-7. Clay Ash got Georgetown's final points with a one-yard run late, but the Hoyas had run out of road well before that.

Cornell improved to 2-1 with the win. Georgetown has now lost four straight to open the season, and Ash's one-yard plunge with 2:20 left was the last snap that mattered.
