How to watch the Freedom 250 Grand Prix - and get around downtown DC

The green flag drops Sunday at 1 p.m. on FOX. Here's the TV and streaming rundown, plus the downtown road closures to plan around.

The inaugural Freedom 250 Grand Prix runs Sunday on the streets around the National Mall. Here's the short version of how to watch and how to get around downtown.

Start time and TV

The race broadcast begins at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, August 23, on FOX, with the green flag scheduled for about 1:13 p.m. ET. Expanded pre-race coverage starts earlier, at 11:30 a.m. ET, on FOX and FOX One.

How to stream

You can stream the race through FOX One and fubo, and on live-TV services that carry FOX, including YouTube TV, DirecTV, and Sling. If you already get FOX at home, no extra service is needed.

Getting around downtown

The course wraps the National Mall, which means much of downtown is affected. Sections of 3rd, 7th, and 9th streets, along with Pennsylvania Avenue, Constitution Avenue, and Independence Avenue, are part of or border the circuit, so expect significant closures and detours through the weekend.

If you're heading into the city, Metro is the safer bet than driving. For the street-by-street list of closures and reopening times, the D.C. Department of Transportation and local stations including NBC4 Washington are posting running updates. Give yourself extra time, and check before you leave — closures around the Mall shift as track setup and teardown happen.

Watching in person

Grandstand and ticketed viewing areas ring the temporary circuit; because the course runs through a secured stretch of the Mall, general vantage points are limited compared with a typical street festival. For tickets, the daily schedule, and the latest on public access, check the official Freedom 250 Grand Prix site.
