Late Talles Magno goal sinks D.C. United at Audi Field

New York City FC stole all three points in Washington on Saturday, scoring in the 87th minute to hand D.C. United a 1-0 loss at home.

D.C. United did everything right for 86 minutes. Then Talles Magno happened.

The Brazilian winger collected a pass from Bénie Traoré off a fast break, cut in from the left side of the box, and buried a right-footed shot into the bottom right corner. That was the 87th minute. That was the game. New York City FC left Washington with a 1-0 win, and United dropped to 7-12-15 on the season.

It was a brutal ending to a tightly contested afternoon. Neither side did much going forward. NYCFC led the shot count 5 to 4 on the day, which tells you everything about how cautious and grinding this one was. United never really threatened in a way that felt dangerous.

João Peglow was D.C.'s most active attacker, leading the team with four total shots. That number sounds modest. It was. United struggled to generate anything clean in the final third, and what little they did create came in isolated moments rather than sustained pressure.

In midfield, Kimito Nono was quietly the busiest player on the home side. He completed 53 accurate passes and recorded eight defensive interventions. He worked. It just wasn't enough.

NYCFC's James Sands anchored the visitors defensively with 10 interventions, and Raul Gustavo kept the ball moving with 70 accurate passes. New York controlled possession in a way that made D.C. chase for long stretches, and when Traoré found Magno in transition late, United's defense had no answer.

The loss stings not because it was a blowout but because United were right there. One moment of quality from a visiting attacker and nothing to show for 90-plus minutes of effort.

Magno's shot sat in the bottom right corner of the net while the Audi Field crowd filed out in silence.
