Jay-Z Reportedly Books Himself to Headline the Super Bowl LXI Halftime Show

A new report says Jay-Z has picked himself to headline the Super Bowl LXI halftime show at SoFi Stadium in February. The NFL and Roc Nation have not confirmed it.

Jay-Z has spent the last several years deciding who gets to stand on the biggest stage in American entertainment. According to a new report, he has decided the next one should be him.

Puck's Dave Brooks reported this week that the rapper and mogul has selected himself to headline the Super Bowl LXI halftime show, set for February 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. As of now, neither the NFL nor Jay-Z's Roc Nation has made it official, and the league has not confirmed any performer.

The twist is in who makes the call. Since 2019, Roc Nation has served as the NFL's official live music and entertainment strategist, shaping and producing the halftime show alongside the league and Apple Music, a partnership the two sides extended for another five years in 2024. That means the man reported to be picking the headliner is also the man who would be the headliner.

It would also be a first. Jay-Z has curated the show for years, handing the stage to Shakira and Jennifer Lopez, The Weeknd, Dr. Dre and a roomful of West Coast legends, Rihanna, Usher, Kendrick Lamar, and this past February, Bad Bunny. He has never taken the thirteen minutes for himself. Super Bowl LXI would change that.

Brooks's sources said the pick had long felt like a foregone conclusion. The report named Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber as other artists who had been in the mix. No guest performers have been announced.

An official word may not be far off. Jay-Z is scheduled to perform at SoFi Stadium this weekend, and multiple outlets suggested the booking could be announced there, at the same venue that will host the game in February. Neither the timing nor the booking has been independently confirmed.

Whoever stands at the fifty-yard line in February will do so in front of the largest audience in American television. Kendrick Lamar's set with SZA last year drew 133.5 million viewers, a record for the halftime show. For an artist who has spent a career turning moments into monuments, that is the kind of stage that tends to call its own number.

For now it remains a report, and a strong one. If it holds, the producer who has quietly run the biggest night in music for years is finally ready to step into the light himself.
