Strome and Tuch carry Capitals past Sabres 4-3 in overtime

Dylan Strome scored twice and Alex Tuch's overtime winner gave Washington a come-from-behind victory at Capital One Arena on Tuesday night.

Washington trailed twice but found a way. The Capitals beat the Buffalo Sabres 4-3 in overtime Tuesday at Capital One Arena, with Dylan Strome doing the heavy lifting and Alex Tuch delivering the finish.

Buffalo came out swinging. Jack Quinn opened the scoring in the first period on a wrist shot, and Josh Doan followed with a snap shot to put the Sabres up 2-0 before Washington had much of an answer. It looked like a long night ahead for the home side.

Tuch got one back late in the first on a backhand, cutting it to 2-1. Then Strome took over. He scored twice in the second period, a backhand and a snap shot, and suddenly the Capitals had flipped the game around. Jordan Kyrou assisted on both Strome goals, finishing the night with two helpers.

Washington couldn't hold it. Noah Ostlund beat the Capitals on a wrist shot in the third to knot it at three and force overtime.

Tuch ended it. He took a pass from Strome and snapped home his second goal of the night at 4-on-4 to win it. Strome finished with two goals and an assist, three points total. Tuch had two goals. Kyrou picked up two assists.

The win pushed Washington to 6-4-0, good for 12 points. Buffalo dropped to 4-4-3 with 11.

Strome's second-period goals were the backbone of the comeback, with Justin Sourdif and Martin Fehervary picking up assists on the third Capitals goal of the night.
