D.C. United falls 2-1 in Cincinnati as second-half set piece proves decisive

A Kimito Nono equalizer gave D.C. United hope at TQL Stadium, but a Teenage Hadebe header ten minutes into the second half sent the Black-and-Red home with nothing.

D.C. United left Cincinnati empty-handed Sunday, dropping a 2-1 decision to FC Cincinnati at TQL Stadium and sliding to 7-12-11 on the season.

The hosts drew first blood in the 14th minute. David Doudera found the bottom right corner with a right-footed shot from the right side of the box, and D.C. spent the rest of the first half chasing.

They caught up. João Peglow threaded a through ball into the box in the 38th minute, and Kimito Nono tucked it into the bottom left corner with his left foot. VAR reviewed the goal before confirming it. Tied at one going into the break, D.C. had a foothold.

It didn't last ten minutes into the second half.

Evander delivered a cross off a set piece situation in the 55th minute, and Teenage Hadebe finished from close range to the bottom left corner. FC Cincinnati never looked back.

The numbers told a quiet story for D.C. Brandon Servania led the team with just three total shots. Peglow, who set up the equalizer, did his part in possession, completing 52 accurate passes. Lucas Bartlett logged 12 defensive interventions. None of it was enough against a Cincinnati side that improved to 10-9-11.

On the other end, Nick Hagglund put in a massive defensive shift for the hosts with 18 interventions, and Kyle Smith completed 49 accurate passes. Tom Barlow led FC Cincinnati with five total shots.

Nono's finish gave D.C. something to feel good about. Hadebe's goal at the near post off a set piece took it away.
