Columbus hands D.C. United a 3-0 loss at ScottsMiracle-Gro Field

D.C. United couldn't recover after falling behind early, dropping a lopsided road result to the Columbus Crew on Saturday. A missed penalty and an own goal made a rough afternoon complete.

D.C. United left Columbus with nothing. A 3-0 defeat at ScottsMiracle-Gro Field dropped the club to 7-12-14 on the season, and the scoreline was never really in doubt after the first quarter-hour.

Sean Zawadzki opened the scoring in the 16th minute, getting his head on a Dylan Chambost cross from a set piece and directing it into the center of the goal from close range. D.C. had a chance to answer quickly. Keisuke Kurokawa stepped up to the spot in the 24th minute, but his left-footed penalty kick missed right. That miss stung. Columbus pushed the lead to two before halftime.

Anass Zaroury made it 2-0 in the 41st minute, finishing from the left side of the box into the top right corner. Chambost had the assist again, his second of the half. Two goals, two assists. Columbus ran the first 45 minutes.

The second half brought no relief. Kimito Nono put the ball into his own net in the 60th minute, and that was essentially the game. Three goals, zero in response.

Zaroury led Columbus with four total shots. Zawadzki completed 89 accurate passes. On the back line, Malte Amundsen made 10 defensive interventions for the Crew.

D.C.'s João Peglow led the visitors with three total shots. Kurokawa, despite the penalty miss, finished with 11 defensive interventions. Matti Peltola completed 48 accurate passes, the most on the United side.

Chambost's two assists in the first half made the difference before halftime was even reached, and Nono's own goal in the 60th minute closed the door for good.
