Georgetown pulls away from Maryland 86-74 behind Jaland Lowe's big night

The Hoyas moved to 2-0 with a comfortable home win over the Terrapins, with Jaland Lowe doing a little of everything to keep Maryland at arm's length.

Georgetown handled Maryland 86-74 at Capital One Arena on Tuesday, with Jaland Lowe orchestrating nearly every good thing the Hoyas did on offense. Final score flatters nobody. The Hoyas were in control.

Lowe finished with 22 points, 8 assists, and 5 rebounds. That kind of line doesn't happen by accident. He opened things up early with a 23-foot three-pointer, assisted by Elmarko Jackson, and kept building from there. His 29-footer late in the first half was the kind of shot that breaks a defense's spirit. He also set up Jackson repeatedly, and Jackson made them pay, scoring from the line and around the rim throughout the first half.

Andre Mills provided punch off the perimeter. He connected on a 25-foot three and followed it with a 16-foot pullup. Georgetown was getting production from multiple spots, which Maryland had no clean answer for.

The Terrapins were not going quietly. Pharrel Payne led Maryland with 28 points and Tomislav Buljan grabbed 10 rebounds, giving the visitors a physical presence inside. DJ Wagner added 3 assists and made a driving layup early. Maryland had enough talent to make this uncomfortable. Georgetown made sure it wasn't.

Chol Machot and Robert Jennings II each added layups in the first half, keeping the Hoyas' offense varied and moving. Jackson finished with contributions both scoring and setting up Lowe's early three, and Vince Iwuchukwu picked up an assist on Jackson's opening layup.

Georgetown is 2-0. Lowe's 29-footer, banking in from well beyond the arc, may have been the shot that said everything about how the Hoyas' night went.
