The NSO pairs Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev for a family-ready holiday concert on Nov 20

The National Symphony Orchestra plays suites from 'The Nutcracker' and Prokofiev's 'Cinderella' in the same program, with pianist Jorge Federico Osorio tackling Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 21 between the two ballets.

The National Symphony Orchestra plays the Kennedy Center Concert Hall on Friday, November 20, at 8 p.m. The program pairs Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite with the suite from Prokofiev's Cinderella, and Jorge Federico Osorio performs Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 21 between the two. Details and tickets are on the Kennedy Center's website.

The concert is designed to work for families and for anyone who wants the emotional payoff of two beloved ballet scores without sitting through the full stage productions. Prokofiev's Cinderella, finished in 1944, is the less-played of the two, and hearing its suite alongside the Tchaikovsky makes the tonal differences between the composers obvious in real time.

The Kennedy Center is at 2700 F St. NW. Parking is available in the venue's garage. The Foggy Bottom Metro stop on the Blue, Orange, and Silver lines is about a 10-minute walk.
