Wizards hold off Hornets 95-79 behind Anthony Davis's big night

Washington got 25 points and 13 rebounds from Anthony Davis and controlled Charlotte at Capital One Arena to move to 3-3 on the season.

Washington held Charlotte to 79 points and walked away with a 95-79 win at Capital One Arena on Thursday, with Anthony Davis doing most of the heavy lifting on both ends of the floor.

Davis finished with 25 points and 13 rebounds. He did damage early, converting four free throws in the first period and adding a two-point shot in close. Trae Young ran the offense with nine assists, keeping the ball moving and the Hornets' defense scrambling.

Dennis Schroder had a hand in things early too. His 24-foot fadeaway jump shot got Washington going in the first period, and he picked up assists on a Sion James layup and a Moussa Diabate dunk. The Diabate finish, a one-footer off the feed from Schroder, was one of the cleaner plays of the opening frame.

AJ Dybantsa gave the Wizards a lift off the bench. He scored on a two-point shot and later hit a 23-footer off a Kyshawn George assist. Those buckets kept Washington comfortable when Charlotte was trying to claw back into it.

Grayson Allen knocked down a 26-foot three-pointer, with Sion James drawing the assist, and that pushed the lead to a point where Charlotte had no real answer.

Brandon Miller led the Hornets with 19 points, including a 16-foot pullup in the first period off a Diabate assist. Miller was the one Charlotte player who stayed consistently productive. Moussa Diabate pulled down 12 rebounds for the visitors, and Schroder, playing against his current team's conference rival, finished with eight assists.

Naz Reid contributed a 17-foot pullup and a layup for Charlotte, but it was not enough. The Hornets, now 3-3, simply could not generate enough offense to threaten a Wizards team that protected the paint and made Charlotte work for everything.

Washington improves to 3-3. The Wizards got the Diabate dunk, the Davis free throws, and 95 points on the board.
