Wizards open season with a win, topping Milwaukee 128-116 at Capital One Arena

Anthony Davis put up 34 points and 12 rebounds in his Wizards debut, and Washington held off the Bucks to go 1-0 on the young season.

Washington didn't waste any time. The Wizards knocked off the Milwaukee Bucks 128-116 at Capital One Arena on Tuesday, picking up their first win of the season behind a dominant night from Anthony Davis and a steady hand from Trae Young.

Davis was everywhere. He finished with 34 points and 12 rebounds, getting his points the hard way and the easy way. He tipped in a loose ball, then threw down a one-foot running dunk off a feed from Bilal Coulibaly. The Bucks had no good answer for him all night.

Young ran the offense with precision. His 13 assists set the tone for how Washington wanted to play, getting his teammates involved early and often. He found Kyshawn George for a dunk in the first period, then later lofted an alley-oop to Alex Sarr that brought the crowd up. That connection, Young to Sarr, is one worth watching going forward.

Kyshawn George had himself a night too. He scored on a driving layup, converted a free throw, and added a dunk off the Young assist. For a young player still finding his footing in the league, he looked comfortable.

Kyle Kuzma chipped in as well, finishing off a one-foot running dunk from a Ryan Rollins feed. Rollins, for his part, contributed a 15-foot pullup jumper and was active as a distributor throughout.

Milwaukee got 24 points and 9 assists from Tyler Herro, who kept the Bucks in the game longer than Washington would have liked. Herro made a running layup early and stayed aggressive. Jaime Jaquez Jr. led the Bucks with 7 rebounds and scored in several different ways, hitting a dunk, a floating jumper, a free throw, and a running layup over the course of the game.

But Milwaukee never really threatened to take control. Washington's lead held, and the Bucks dropped to 0-1.

Sarr's alley-oop dunk in the first period, flushed down off a Young lob, got the loudest reaction of the night from the Capital One Arena crowd.
