Raptors hand Wizards a 112-102 loss at Capital One Arena

Toronto's Scottie Barnes ran the show with 28 points and 14 rebounds, and Washington couldn't find an answer all night.

The Wizards lost at home Tuesday night. Final score: 112-102, Toronto. Washington sits at 1-1. The Raptors are 2-0.

Scottie Barnes was the story. He finished with 28 points and 14 rebounds, and he made it look easy at stretches. His 20-foot pullup off an Immanuel Quickley feed was the kind of shot that doesn't show up pretty in a box score but tells you everything about where his confidence is right now.

Toronto got going early. RJ Barrett opened things with a 28-footer, Kawhi Leonard answered with a 23-foot three, and just like that the Raptors had the tone. Quickley added an 8-foot floater. When Kawhi hit a 19-foot pullup, Washington was already in a hole it never quite climbed out of.

Trae Young tried. He finished with 22 points and 12 assists, and those assist numbers tell you he was moving the ball, finding people, keeping Washington in the game longer than the final score might suggest. Anthony Davis pulled down 9 rebounds. But Toronto had too much depth on the night.

Washington did punch back. Bilal Coulibaly knocked down a 26-foot three with a Trae Young assist. Alex Sarr had two memorable moments: a 25-foot three off a Kyshawn George feed and a 3-foot dunk on a Young assist that got the home crowd going. Kyshawn George hit both his free throws to keep Washington within reach for a while.

None of it was enough. Immanuel Quickley handed out 6 assists and kept Toronto's offense organized. Jakob Poeltl scored off a Scottie Barnes feed. Collin Murray-Boyles added an 8-foot floater. The Raptors just kept finding ways to extend the lead whenever Washington looked ready to make a real run.

Barnes's 14 rebounds were the number that hurt most. Washington gave up too much on the glass, and Barnes punished them for it every time.
