Commanders beat Eagles 27-10 behind four Drew Stevens field goals

Washington ground out a methodical home win over Philadelphia on Sunday, moving to 2-4-1 with a performance built on steady defense and a reliable kicking game.

Washington came out of Northwest Stadium with a 27-10 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, and it wasn't pretty, but it got the job done. The Commanders improved to 2-4-1. The Eagles dropped to 2-6.

Philadelphia struck first. Jake Elliott hit a 40-yard field goal early in the first quarter, then Saquon Barkley punched it in from three yards out to push the Eagles to a 10-0 lead. Washington looked shaky.

Then Drew Stevens hit a 56-yard field goal with 28 seconds left in the first quarter. That was the start of something.

Stevens finished the afternoon four-for-four, connecting from 56, 39, 25, and 42 yards. He was the most reliable weapon Washington had all day. The offense sputtered at times, but Stevens kept the scoreboard moving.

Jayden Daniels went 16 of 29 for 217 yards and one touchdown, a clean eight-yard strike to Stefon Diggs in the second quarter that put Washington ahead for good. Treylon Burks was the standout receiver, hauling in three catches for 81 yards. Rachaad White carried 11 times for 55 yards and scored the final touchdown on a one-yard run late in the fourth quarter, with Austin Ekeler converting a two-point run to make it 27-10.

On the other sideline, Tanner McKee started at quarterback for Philadelphia and finished 23 of 34 for 212 yards with one interception. Elijah Mitchell led the Eagles on the ground with 11 carries for 34 yards. Makai Lemon was their top pass-catcher with six receptions for 57 yards. None of it was enough.

Washington's defense held Barkley largely in check after that early touchdown. Philadelphia's running game generated just 34 yards on 11 carries for the game.

The Commanders won this one the old-fashioned way: field position, a turnover, and a kicker who didn't miss. Stevens' 56-yarder in the final seconds of the first quarter was the moment the afternoon turned.
