DC Turkish Festival takes over Pennsylvania Avenue for its 24th year

The American Turkish Association of DC fills a six-block stretch of Pennsylvania Avenue NW with folk dancers, live music, a bazaar, and a Turkish coffeehouse on October 18. Free admission all day.

The American Turkish Association of Washington, DC (ATA-DC) puts on its 24th annual DC Turkish Festival on Sunday, October 18, from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. along Pennsylvania Avenue NW between 3rd and 6th Streets. Admission is free. The festival has drawn more than 20,000 visitors in recent years and is the centerpiece of Turkish Heritage Month in the capital region.

Two stages host live music ranging from Anatolian rock to traditional folk, plus folk-dance ensembles performing throughout the day. A bazaar runs the length of the avenue with hand-knotted carpets, ceramics, evil-eye nazar charms, and other artisanal goods. There's also a Turkish coffeehouse with fortune readings, a kids' tent, and food stalls serving kebabs, gözleme, baklava, and Turkish delight.

Washington City Paper readers have named it Best Festival and Best Cultural Festival. Full details at turkishfestival.org.
